One of the UK's most acclaimed actresses, she often portrays enigmatic and matronly characters with a sense of wit, frequently in period dramas and literary adaptations. Her first film role was in the romantic comedy The Tall Guy. In the early s, she often collaborated with her then-husband, actor and director Kenneth Branagh. The pair became popular in the British media and co-starred in several films, including Dead Again and Much Ado About Nothing In , she garnered dual Academy Award nominations for her roles in The Remains of the Day as the housekeeper of a grand household and In the Name of the Father as a lawyer.
I asked them to make me one and call the cocktail after me. And as with the first film, Thompson, 51, stars and wrote the screenplay. Back in , the star took a beloved series of books to the big screen and cast Colin Firth as the bewildered and struggling father of seven. What happened to her since then? Look what a beautful an accomplished young woman she has become. The debut actress who brought Chrissy or Christiana to give her her full name to life worked solidly for a few years after the movie was released before appearing to divert her energy into studying art. Now 19, she has blossomed into a typical young British woman, happily posting pictures of herself and friends on social media.
Emma has a wonderful sense of both comic and dramatic rhythms, and her writing can be heartbreakingly emotional without ever being sentimental. She also has a remarkable ability to write period language in a way that feels absolutely accurate, while at the same time being accessible to the modern ear. She works very hard to get the script as good as it can be before the shoot. But once we started shooting, if a change needed to be made, if a scene wasn't playing as well as expected, if the dialogue needed attention, then she would address it. She is not precious about the word on the page. I would say, 'Emma, we need four extra lines of dialogue,' and she would give them straight back and they would be brilliant.
